This year is going way too fast to keep up with!</span></div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;"></span> </div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;">Well the month started out great, thats for sure. My husband & I had a big run of 5 days off together! We went for a drive into the city at midnight the other night & fed the possums in the botanic gardens. So cute. The next day we went to Australia Zoo which was ok. Its been a few years since I last went and its gotten pretty slow since then, there was hardly anyone there and it was so hot so all the animals just wanted to sleep! But we did get to check out the animal hospital which was good to see and make a donation. Then we made a last minute booking at 'secrets on the lake' at montville (i have done a previous post on this place- its amazing!) and got a $420 treehouse for $300! plus we got a bbq dinner (i had vegies) and lots of chocolate & wine! It was much warmer this time round but we still made good use of the spa overlooking Lake Baroon. I had such an amazing nights sleep! </span></div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;"></span> </div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;">Unfortunetely its back to the real world of work & study! Week 1 of uni started so its going to be a fairly busy few months with assignments & exams. The material is all pretty basic, its more the assignments im worried about- ive never written an essay this big before! First time for everything I guess. </span></div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;"></span> </div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;">We have been having some nicer weather lately, its been blue skies and although its been very hot its been nice to see some sun. But alas the rains on here again! I thought this was meant to be sunny QLD!!! ive lived here all my life & never seen so much rain like I have in the last few months. Its better then the drought we had a few years ago though I guess. </span></div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;"></span> </div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;">So I realise I need a good camera-i never have good photos to post and need a decent camera! maybe having some more photos on my blog will attract more readers :P Will have to wait a little while though. After ive paid off my uni fees for this semester im planning on going blonde again! I was blonde for about 4 years then went brunette about a year ago & im over it already, blondes really do have more fun! Im interested in one of those e-readers aswell but the thought of not having a paper book seems too technological for me- I love bookcases full of books and always dreamed of a house full of books and that my children would read from my collection aswell. We will see. Id like to spend about $400 on new clothes for winter aswell as its fast approaching. </span></div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"></span> </div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:Verdana;">As for the rest of my March plans, im on 10 days holidays from next Monday. I will be spending the majority of that time doing my assignments but I will be attending the green earth festival next week in the Brisbane botanic gardens- yay a festival for vege hippies like me! Ill try get some photos this time!</span></div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"></span> </div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:Verdana;">What does March hold for you?</span></div>Jesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04844045692780840333noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3730028129827191800.post-41666772497405280042011-02-09T13:01:00.003+10:002011-02-09T13:22:37.655+10:00wednesday weblove<div align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;">I spend alot of my time shopping on the internet and have acquired a fairly long list of favourite online shopping sites over the last year or so. So awesome. Have a very busy fortnight coming up though full of long shifts, study & no time for sleep. </span></div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;"></span> </div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;">On Saturday we went for a drive up the coast & ended up in Underwater World. The seals are so cute! Had to take a cheesy tourist pic to make the day though!</span></div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;"></span> </div><br /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5570744623131370162" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 300px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 400px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoebZHwpwDU5IGT7nl5DUlSGqCxRW2TDOa5nrAi-DEwcw5RYfU2I0f8GNYBchLAzFig5Ijd3UVUweHJjeCw-UDuHRYOrA9VwiuX14o8Tp9LKtTAhuqWNNTHTm0zBhcxDrHuXtXQAAbQBdx/s400/photo13.JPG" border="0" /><br /><br /><div align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;">On Sunday we got up super early (not-9am!) and ventured out to the Caboolture markets for the morning. I havent been to the markets since I was about 10 years old and I have very fond memories of fairy floss, pet rocks, pony rides, scones with jam & cream, running around with my cousins, all the homemade toys & snow cones full of blue & red sugar! My god how things have changed! The markets were full of absolute crap! The toys were the same you would get out of a standard toy shop, there was plastic crap everywhere & about 75% of the stalls were people selling their second hand crap. And it wasnt even good stuff, it literally was just crap! There was nothing handmade, no pony rides, no children having fun. Not to mention it was one of the hottest days in a few months with no breeze anywhere! Yes it sounds like im complaining but I was just so shocked to see the horrible sight. Were had the markets I remember gone?? Very disappointing. </span></div><br /><br /><br /><div align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;">Here is another pic of Leon the day we got him at 7 weeks old. He weighed a whole 2.5kg. Please ignore the horridness that is me, I had just finished a run of 6 night duties before driving for 2 hours to get here so am pretty darn tired looking! Was so relaxing though! For dinner we went out to a local pizzeria which does the most amazing cajun cheese & mushroom pizza! I have tried to re-create this in my own kitchen with no luck, I dont know how they do it but its amazing! Montville is full of little cafe's & diners with a very small-town feel and is full of vintage shops & loverly homewares & clothes. There is also a candy shop which does hard boiled lollies were they do twice daily shows demonstarting how they make the candy. There is also a chocolate shop full of amazing handmade local chocolates & fudge! Another great shop is run by the local winery which sells the most amazing wines! And I have to mention a few others....the glassblowers shop, handmade timber & wood furnishings & an awesome toystore full of handmade toys & puzzles!<br /><br /></span><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhF0jQ0Re_kcS4hDdMJdLCpi6L-edZbRW8ZazK1tOE5aprD5Nto_xiwW-ak3ygA8wGLrFQ4c8eSLmeHGKwtFGSrBBvrDNh-RMo4ChI8hf8K8SFR58vUTVTogjmrzXBBFfDVXOAPBoLK-lP2/s1600/photo2.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5570742387011487074" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 265px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhF0jQ0Re_kcS4hDdMJdLCpi6L-edZbRW8ZazK1tOE5aprD5Nto_xiwW-ak3ygA8wGLrFQ4c8eSLmeHGKwtFGSrBBvrDNh-RMo4ChI8hf8K8SFR58vUTVTogjmrzXBBFfDVXOAPBoLK-lP2/s400/photo2.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><span style="font-family:verdana;">The view from our balcony & from the spa- Lake Baroon.</span> <span style="font-family:verdana;">This Lake is only open to 2 resorts in Montville, including the one we stayed at. On the far right is the balcony with the gorgous 'love seat' made out of wood and is soooo comfy to curl up on with a blanket & book & cup of tea and watching the kayakers go past on the lake. In the middle is the firplace which was constantly on is its freezing up there! The whole treehouse is carved out of wood & there are little wooden creatures scattered all over the place. This was the dragonfly house so there was little wooden dragonflies everywhere! Even the toilet roll holder was a wooden dragonfly!<br /><br /></span><br /><br /><br /><span style="font-family:verdana;">Its my husband & I's dream to move to Montville one day. To buy a cute little cottage on a decent amount of land and raise a family. We already have 2 dogs but would probably get a few more to fill up the land. Id love to plant lots of fruit trees (although there is fruit trees everywhere already) and live off the fresh fruit & vegies grown in my own backyard. Montville is right next door to Maleny which is famous for its cheese's, wines & yogurts. Both towns are full of gorgous little vintage shops & handmade goodies. The weather is constantly changing from lightly sunny to a slight rain but its always beautiful. The countryside is constantly green and full of tree's. The air is fresher & the people are just loverly. The closest hospital is about 30mins drive and they have a fairly decent but small intensive care unit there so I will probably try to get a job there in an education or facilitation role. There are a few different ambulance stations my husband could transfer to. I normally work Sundays, so this is very strange territory. I used to go & get the paper & a coffee in the morning, then go shopping before lunch, then spend the afternoon doing relaxing activities. My husband also works Sundays so today im home alone. I slept in til 9am. It was nice but I feel I have overslept as im still feeling like a walking zombie 4hrs later! I dont buy the paper anyway- I look up the news on the internet. I dont buy coffee anymore either- I have my own espresso machine now. I cant be bothered going to the shops. They are always so crowded anyway. No, today I will be doing the occassional load of washing, watch the 6 episodes of sex & the city I have recorded off foxtel, waste time on the internet looking at blogs and window shopping on the internet, which I find is more dangerous.....glad my credit card is downstairs in my purse and not upstairs with me right now. This year is flying by so fast. </span></div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;"></span> </div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;">So I found out a few days ago I have been accepted into uni for this year to study a graduate degree in intensive care nursing! So happy. And its a government subsidised course so only going to cost me 1/4 of the price! Im studying part-time and externally. Its been 4 years since I finished my bachelor's degree and im hoping I will get back into the swing of uni studies easily enough. Depending on how it goes, I will then progress towards a masters degree next year. </span></div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;"></span> </div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;">I started a new diet this week. I dont really like the word diet, id prefer to call it a lifestyle change I guess. Ive been battling with my weight for a little while now. I do try to make good choices but more often then not im just so busy with study & work & lack of sleep and end up eating way too much bad stuff & not exercising. I found a local company which delivers your meals for a week and they offer 100% vegetarian which is great. Every other home delivery diet food company ive looked into will not cater to vegetarians so I was happy when I found this one. It costs $128 a week and thats for breakfast, lunch, dinner & morning & afternoon snacks & includes delivery. They pack each days breakfast & lunch seperately so its easy to just grab each days lunch & take to work with me. And they do fresh salad dinners aswell as frozen meals for dinner so its nice not to have to eat totally frozen stuff all the time. Its aimed to help you lose 1kg a week at a healthy rate so im going to work at sticking to it and shift some of this weight. Is there anyone else in blogworld currently on a weightloss journey? Would love to hear about it! </span></div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"></span> </div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:Verdana;">Im on 2 days off from work now. Slept in til 7am this morning (I normally get up at 4:30am for work) which was nice. Had coffee with an old friend this morning, did a spot of window shopping and am planning on having a relaxing afternoon of blog reading & catching up on all my unread magazines (I subscribe to ALOT of magazines) </span></div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"></span> </div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"></span> </div>Jesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04844045692780840333noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3730028129827191800.post-72129225190391251082011-01-23T08:40:00.007+10:002011-01-23T09:05:31.618+10:00Weddings!<div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" >Ive been reading about so many awesome weddings on my daily blog reads & I havent been to a wedding in forever! I live about a 20min drive north of Brisbane and was extremely lucky not to be affected. The damage is just crazy. I looked back on my blog to a few posts ago complaining about the rain...who would've known it would come to this? The last Brisbane flood was in 1974 and thankfully it wasn't as bad this time around but it was just centimeters off being the same height. The flooding was mostly caused by the swollen Brisbane river running off into the city but a lot of local areas were affected by flooded rivers & lakes & they got no media coverage at all! 3 suburbs surrounding me got flooded. The supermarket I shop at in the next town was completely under water! I work closer to the city as well and have to go over a large river to get to work and its a 8 lane highway and they had the 4 outer lanes closed due to being flooded. I was so close to not being able to get home from work! We didn't lose power either which was a blessing. As much as I hate this neighbourhood we are in a very lucky position here. Our house is pretty high up and its about half a kilometer to the ocean so its pretty hard to get flooded here. The backyard doesn't drain very well & with all the rain our backyard did get flooded but it never reached the house. The poor dogs, they couldn't stay on the upstairs balcony as the wind was blowing rain everywhere & it was just too wet. The backyard was flooded and they had just enough dry concrete to lie on. The kennel was flooded as well. We couldn't keep them inside either as they were covered in mud. My poor babies. Lucy looked so depressed and the new puppy Leon wasn't happy with being an outside dog at all! Still, its sunny now and the clean-up in Brisbane will take months! Its just so sad for the people who have lost their homes. Here are some pics of the devastation, they are from <a href="http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/">http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/</a></span></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimlIc3Gt1HeF1LZnHq6r4om7stfHY0OD0KaFrHQuUirmi_IEnwEvwPj2mvzoUNe4th8vRTr05p3I1qhRdS0GJGkCLu_cT_6cK64uHSoPAEEIVq4qwCmdwOHNv4Sr1RUCFDhJqUcJ8o-69L/s1600/509997452-600x400.jpg"><img style="display:block; Well its a lazy rainy (again!) Sunday for me. Its been raining for about oh..forever now! Its meant to be the middle of summer! I do love the rain but this is getting abit mad house! </span></div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;"></span> </div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;">So im sitting patiently waiting to hear if I have been accepted into university this year to study my masters degree. And ive been sitting in my boring horrible study thinking this is a horrible place to study! Id love to re-do it and make it pretty and a place I actually want to study. </span></div><div align="center"> <img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5559990513701980034" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 300px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdb7fJfdUv_jlBwnVC6reoCZXpAFUYBOovU5cldp6mLIQIEg46YK9cImFp4BIdaUZsV2KDb-Qe1jsHEA8IvEbw8A-Rt2JWYqjp5wCtjacOizCGZgbSQezDjbTYdwwq7ljTfPhi60qhklVo/s400/IMG_0492.JPG" border="0" /></div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;">This is my desk, which a loverly big dark wood desk but its covered in textbooks and other crap! I desperatly need a new chair aswell...the cats have scratched this one, ive had to cover the top in a pillowcase to keep the stuffing inside! Id like a nice black chair to go with my black desk. </span></div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;"></span> </div><div align="center"><br /></div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5559990231332679634" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 300px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxdyCx3WYvs5NripjSNx8xwng5N86Yh9AKqzyKL59asfdFGgiLqj4is10-_r1nrhCFuq9d061KszydQbwgx9Q81CP8i5ORVSQIOWaYIomNp1dnhc1XQr6XCra__M9quFGs5v3SPekTFh2U/s400/IMG_0493.JPG" border="0" /> <p align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;">This is the other corner of the room, currently occupied with washing! Id like to scrub & repaint the walls, still in white though. Since its a rental & we cant change the blinds I was thinking a large blue rug to cover the horrible brown & white carpet. So the colour scheme would be white walls with dark furniture & blue rug & blinds. Id like to put a large dark wood bookcase along the wall to clear the textbooks off my desk & keep some cute collectables in there. </span></p><p><span style="font-family:verdana;"></span> </p><p align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;">Well here are some pictures of my life through my iphone:</p><p align="center"><br /></p><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5559990228249308322" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 300px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 400px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgU8nYknDndB0LrOl41pDpWIF3MAB5Scrt2wGloTV1EPWoRtZ96RDhmdIpeyh0E9JmwMRZ8icTV4VYIYwdv_Jx8rjjSKoD43n2Ro20J7RD2GWniCViIteU8qFkID-SHwG40ZsdVfwrHdA4M/s400/IMG_0489.JPG" border="0" /> <p align="center"></span><span style="font-family:verdana;">My husband and his 'man sandwich' that I made him after he finished working night shift for breakfast: large sourdough vienna loaf with salami, ham, cheese, lettuce & parmesan/garlic sauce! He is a purebred german shepherd and a whole 7 weeks old! He is just too cute and has a pretty big personality. We have already introduced him to our other dog Lucy (below) who is a 2 year old german shepherd. I hope they will be the best of friends! They got along pretty well today, Lucy was very gentle and Leon wasnt too scared around her. </span></div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"></span> </div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:Verdana;">As per usual the cats were real impressed..not! Poor Halo (the star of my blog banner), she was our first pet and we got her 4 years ago and since then we have gotten another cat & 2 dogs. She must think we dont love her! Leon will be staying indoors for a few weeks until he completes his vaccine program then will be living outside with Lucy. We have a 2 storey house & its good that the stairs are very hard for puppies to climb so the cats will probably hide upstairs until he goes outside. </span></div><div align="center"></div><div align="center"><br /></div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5553021919841362018" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 266px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 400px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDBRyNiZ5CSKOJf-Ctd5mmnX-qvlYDqxLislpz2gML1V-llr2NWCQMPNq2x0ccj16i506DNX1BP08nhltSx7nEOD5DVG1HiXyFvM8QE5HKh2kLEPkGsLAYrQ5g9Gd5y-PkXgjCJSn1p1jW/s400/lucy.bmp" border="0" /> <p align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;">Me & Lucy<br /></p></span>Jesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04844045692780840333noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3730028129827191800.post-39543113583465299402010-12-12T07:58:00.002+10:002010-12-12T08:54:46.784+10:00End of 2010<div align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;">Ive been so very slack with blogging as well as crafting lately and unfortunetely I can see that will probably continue for awhile as my life is changing. Its been a busy past few months and year and I think next year will be even busier. So since I have no crafting news to update and im enjoying a nice lazy rainy Sunday morning I thought I would reflect on the year and what the new year brings. I know this is probably boring to most, but I personally love hearing about what people have been up to and where they are headed. </span></div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;"></span> </div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;">This year has been overall a great year for me personally but has been quite horrible for alot of my loved ones. My dear cousin celebrated the birth of his beautiful daughter in February, however a few months later his wife has gone abit 'weird' and forced them into a seperation which will lead to a divorce among countless DVO orders and a custody battle for this baby. Its been a nightmare year for him and his family and I only hope things turn out for the better soon and he gets his daughter back from that horrible woman. </span></div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;"></span> </div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;">Another dear family friend who has been married for many years (I was a flowergirl at their wedding when I was 8, so thats 16 years ago!) have seperated aswell. Very sad. I hope they work things out though.</span></div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;"></span> </div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;">My mother in law had a nervous breakdown this year and ended up hospitalised for a long time for anxiety which was very testing on the family and their business. My mother always told me it doesnt matter how many children they have, its always the daughter in law who ends up looking after the mother in law and thats definetely what happened in my situation aswell! I spend my holidays working in their shop because they couldnt afford to hire anyone to keep the business going and was the shoulder to cry on. I dont mind being there for people but it does annoy me that her 7 children, including her son (my husband) werent there for her. She has since left hospital and is back at work & seems abit happier but with the festive season upon us and the family torn to shreds still (thats a whole other story!) she has potential to get worse again. </span></div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;"></span> </div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;">Onto the good stuff. Firstly, my career. I work as a registered nurse and for the last 2 years I have worked in a level 2 intensive care unit which means the patients are sick, but not that sick. Intensive care units are given a 'level' depending on how sick the patients are and the amount of expertise the hospital has to deal with those patients. A level 1 hospital can only take ventilated (so people on breathing machines) patients for 4 hours before sending them to a bigger hospital. A level 2, which is were I used to work can take ventilated patients, and usually recieves the patients the level 1 facilities transfer, but only if they are stable and dont have any serious cardiac or brain issues. So this includes people with serious chest infections, kidney failure, sepsis & shock. A level 3 hospital is the top guns....they specialise in intensive care patients and can provide much more advanced technologies and complex life saving interventions and they do alot of research. The hospital I now work at is a level 3 intensive care which specialises in cardiac (heart) surgery and conditions and is the biggest cardiac hospital in the state. Now, when I worked in my old job I did a study program called transition which is a 12 month program that all new staff to intensive care must do to develop the advanced skills & knowledge needed to work in intensive care. This program gives me 2 subjects credit to a post graduate university qualification which I will be doing next year. Initially I was going to do this qualification while working at my old job and I never had any intentions of moving to a bigger hospital. The thought of doing university again while working full time in a new & very big hospital was daunting. But the idea kept growing in my head and I finally bit the bullet and asked for a job which I was given. Six months ago I wouldve laughed at you if you suggested I would be working in a major level 3 intensive care unit while doing university, but here we are! Its a huge step for me and I look forward to advancing my career to places I never intended to go before! </span></div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;"></span> </div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;">This year I learnt how to sew and how to knit. Now I know the majority of my blog world friends are very experienced with this but id never done it before and im very proud of myself for buying a sewing machine and teaching myself how to use it. I havent sewn much, I made a skirt ans some new kitchen curtains but its a start anyway. Ive been far too busy to make anything lately but its nice to know if I need to sew something or repair something I have the machine and I know how to use it! Ive got lots of beautiful fabrics still and am still deciding what to make with them but right now im thinking some nice new homewares....some pillowcases and id love to make a quilt. I have a beautiful watercolour multicolour flower fabric which is just stunning and I want to make a dress or skirt out of but im waiting til I find an amazing pattern because I dont want to waste it. So stay tuned! </span></div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"></span> </div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:Verdana;">Not much else has happened in my life this year, its been a pretty average year for me despite the drama's going on around me. Ill do a post about new year dreams abit later. Its off to make a coffee and take in the newspaper!</span></div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"></span> </div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:Verdana;">Whats been significant in your lives this year?</span></div>Jesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04844045692780840333noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3730028129827191800.post-25593033571941178362010-11-13T18:39:00.002+10:002010-11-13T18:46:52.696+10:00Im still around!<div align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;">Havent been around blog world much lately. I really do. Its not the actual working at night part-that doesnt bother me, its spending my 2 days off recovering from no sleep! I just worked four 12hr night shifts and have spent the last 2 days sleeping or on the couch doing nothing because im so exhausted. And the fun part is, I get to do it all again soon! I love my job so much but I do wonder if switching from intensive care nursing to a different type of nursing where there are minimal or no night shifts would be worth it. My friend who I went to university with and worked in intensive care with me for 3 months got a new monday-friday no night shift job teaching nursing students. And she gets paid as a level 6 (im a level 5 despite being out of university the same time as her!) so not doing shift work she would still make up the money from penalties. And I have way more experience then she does, she has only done surgical nursing for the last 3 1/2 years then 3 months ICU whereas ive done 1 1/2 years now of ICU and before that I worked everywhere- emergency, medical, surgical, paediatrics, maternity, cardiac, mental health. But I still dont feel im finished with ICU yet. Im going back to uni next year to do my masters and im thinking once I have my masters in ICU nursing I will pretty much be set for most jobs and can give up night duty! Hell, im only 24yrs old anyway, I suppose another 3-4 years of night duty wont kill me. </span></div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;"></span> </div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;">Despite being incredibly tired yesturday I did manage to make a skirt! I found a long pink & purple printed dress I was going to sell in a garage sale a few weeks ago because it doesnt fit me anymore (and I doubt it ever will) but then realised I could make a skirt out of it. It turned out ok, for my first go I was impressed. I just cut the top part off to the height I wanted it, sewed an elastic casing on the top, weaved some elastic through, sewed the ends together & voila! Didnt have to hem it or anything! It sits about mid-calf level and will be a perfect around the house skirt. Ill take a photo eventually. </span></div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;"></span> </div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;">Some of you might know I am trying to lose weight and im doing a little side blog of it. So if any of you are in the same boat or would just like to pay a little visit to see how im going, go visit me at </span><a href="http://www.thehealthysnoozingkitten.blogspot.com/"><span style="font-family:verdana;">www.thehealthysnoozingkitten.blogspot.com/</span></a><span style="font-family:verdana;"> its still under construction, but then again, so is every other area of my life!</span></div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;"></span> </div><div align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;">I so want to buy a house! Im tired of renting. Granted we get a great deal here, we only pay $300 a week for a 2 storey 4 bedroom house with double garage & a yard. We rent off my husbands mum & stepdad and there are no inspections and we can have pets. They could easily get $400 a week for this place so cheap rent is great. But still, I want a little place to call my own. Just has to have a big backyard for 2 dogs (we only have 1 dog but really want to get another german shepherd...a male this time..as a friend for Lucy. Already picked his name too- Leon) and a double garage. This house currently has 4 bedrooms but im sure we could get away with 3 (one for sleep, one for guest and one for my sewing room!) We thought about buying the house we are renting but I really dont like this neighbourhood. There are always people fighting and gangs of white trash on the roads & last year an old man got stabbed to death about 100 metres away from our house. I cant leave the house after dark on my own & even during the day I keep all the windows & doors locked. I caught a guy trying to get into my garage last year, he said he was looking for his dog. I told him it didnt walk through steel into my fucking garage and to get off my property! I feel safe when I go walking but im sure noone will try anything when I have a 35kg german shepherd dog next to me! My actual neighbours are ok, they keep to themselves and I live in a samoan community and they are very family & community oriented people who look out for each other. Its just the white trash which needs to be cleaned up. My husband & I have very different tastes in decorating/renovating aswell which sucks. He loves all the modern minimalistic shades of black & grey crap while I like french country- wooden floors with white walls and wooden or white furniture with colourful pieces & a garden full of flowers! Ah well. As long as I get to decorate the sewing room & eventually the nursery ill be happy.</span> <span style="font-family:verdana;">Well todays project is to attempt some new kitchen curtains with the fabrics mentioned in a previous post- white, charcoal & printed ties. Lately ive been very much into organic stuff...food, fabrics & now beauty stuff and I came across a website that sells it (I cant find it anywhere where I live!) and I just had to have it! Ive always had okay skin, I had acne when I was a teenager but for the last few years its been pretty good. I can get away without wearing make-up which is great. My main problem is my skin is just so dull. And im already getting dark circles under my eyes (thanks to being a shiftworker). So im gonna give this stuff a go and try stick to a regime and hopefully it will help my skins condition. What do you guys use in blog world???</span></div><p align="center"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5507302596421598978" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4RbUU7-k79UHQghxKT8Jx3vuHZb06rZOtu9hq414BhTQYlAUXLzW6nUsAe8V9uDXue2MLy_AruRY2ejMHFAJpbOCn-pIcnXMS5wOMTl0mRjQHbFKOK2xpS09QqULW-yNSy3OLGAAG4JB2/s400/IMG_0391.JPG" /></p>Jesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04844045692780840333noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3730028129827191800.post-8060595635426423462010-08-20T10:40:00.003+10:002010-08-20T11:27:26.533+10:00these are a few of my favourite things...<div align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;"> First up....my sewing space. I just LOVE looking at peoples sewing spaces and I know mine is boring but hey, it might inspire some suggestions for improvement! Its pretty boring at the moment, we are currently cleaning out & sprucing up the spare bedrooms and eventually id like to get a much bigger desk for sewing like my study desk but unfortunetely study comes first so study gets the bigger desk. But this desk is ok for now, even if it doesnt match with anything else (all my other furniture is dark-almost black wood). Starting from top right is my wooden treasure chest which originally was my wishing well at my wedding. This photo does it no justice-its such a beautiful box and this is my temporary fabric storage to keep dust off my fabrics. Going anti-clockwise, next is my small collection of sewing & knitting books. Next is a little wicker basket with all my thread thrown in plus a pair of knitting needles. Next is my sewing machine. One of the first projects id like to do is make a cute new cover for it instead of the boring white one you get with it. On the left side bottom shelf is a pink box filled with clothes that need repairing, my iron, and a box with yarn in it. Bottom right side shelf is all my favourite magazines (Frankie, Yen, Spook & Peppermint) and a scented candle to keep them from falling over. Middle right shelf is a wicker tray filled with small containers containing various buttons, and behind that tray is a big plastic tackle box with my scissors, bobbins, various sewing machine attatchments etc. Mainly its to hide my dressmakers scissors from my husband! Eventually id like a bigger desk with a matching bookcase to go beside it keep all my books, magazines and fabrics & knick-knacks on and I want to get a pinboard to go above the desk to pin up inspirational pictures etc.</span><br /><br /><br /></div><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5507287833307645906" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZP7H4AODKZ_SL-soDiDkA_usGuzL_1C2uon-yD9MBUZz56vmJJ0LB2FWCsQDM5pFYHRm5N9HXkLD2DviH-Qrx7ihDnuhLYjrCWTtONF0YDv-JF-0JKgOk7ptMfT0RbosV0N1R1d9SlVXl/s400/IMG_0388.JPG" /> <p align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;">I got 1 of 2 orders of fabrics delievered today yay! The piccie below is of some gorgous 50cm x 110cm fabrics with the most gorgous prints! This photo does the colours no justice, they are so bright & vibrant! My favourite out of this lot is the bottom left hand pink, white & olive print. Ive also ordered some solid colour fabrics, one of which is the same olive colour which im going to use as a peaking petticoat under the print to make a cute skirt.<br /></span></p><div><br /></div><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 300px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5507287828706214690" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEFR7b4V5dJ5H4sZbjMDssvOJ2wxWL6VNI_t6_v1c6oiOMmKd2qO7hM86ab5Q_lkNnleP40aXItblsM1wxSf8SdRQicFNfjS1QHZDpET04NzEI7fnLloKoXhaU-x04xUVLUa4b8t602Dza/s400/IMG_0387.JPG" /><br /><br /><div align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;">The piccie below is of a bundle of fabrics 50cm x 110cm and they are 100% organic cottons and my god, they are so nice to touch! So soft! A huge difference to the 100% non-organic cottons above. I think I will be buying organic cottons from now on. I know they are more expensive but they are just to die for! Anyway, I bought this lot in a bundle and couldnt really get to see the exact prints for each one, the majority I love, there are a couple im abit puzzled about how to use because they are very childlike fabrics & all my nieces have been cut off from the family (long story!) so I might hang on to these until my friends baby is abit older (she was only born last week afterall). The green, white & blue spots fabric (second down on the right) is just so much more vivid then this picture and I bought a solid bright blue fabric to do the same peaking petticoat skirt idea with. </span></div><br /><br /><p><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 300px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5507287823892416066" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtbpgAcHxx0dkvSQ7w2p-qK5xmeUoU67vCke7XVRbk6GBwGe8sPY5Entv99cbSX71FfROO90tNbUdJF68YJWOJOzPZuaWYvJbW6_xVD7F7yU5WXsdfTcRhNSUBNFjdDRLcmt4-Sl6Oeb5w/s400/IMG_0386.JPG" /></p><p> </p><p align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;">Ive seen a few other girls do this on their blogs, showing off some piccies of their week through their iPhone....so here's my week so far:</span><br /> </p><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 300px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5507287265066088018" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgl_MTo1CG6cMND9DVMLhNabPuL_rhC7fVZFL-_MRqmoIeUSxl-GmBvxs68vrafsUVu5xgqBjAuB_49rHY5-uPP0qp1sDAcRXosIIefn4sdygO9rMzDWUxsl8iuy5tvEeH8RXi3Ub2YDpCq/s400/IMG_0373.JPG" /> <p align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;">Mmm, vegetarian nachos!!</span><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /></p><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 300px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5507287253949414578" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOj-NyBFRi_DLwIzYa2ygGX9gN6UPgpkq0stKiS4R6EzSe1EQHw6WDKlwlwmGMXURRL4nnAwhrUlT6IQ8Z3Z5H4ezvm8g5J5tzTrO_uHW_fPet05D7jXqxTFuW-m4xZRkP7xg0WfMdFJqS/s400/IMG_0369.JPG" /><br /><div align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;"> My husband asleep with Yoda (normally these 2 hate each other so I thought this was just too cute!)<br /></span><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /></div><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5507287252139010386" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGddOZwvO9GDkkUus5xNBVYlpbOiU6WOvi4MhHyrn9rvMwGk4CorPqtmGte-p6DD620XMQIpSaN6S3f_RLxnm-xuBos6qMjPiZiKIhyphenhyphenPkmhd9ThMCTdmLMbeKub3LQcQKaKvM3IgE5u0ab/s400/IMG_0356.JPG" /> <p align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;">Yoda stretching out in the sun</span></p><p align="center"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"></span><br /> </p><br /><br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5507287244014225074" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEht_BhzRPbpNjOmOxtRO-QmF0zhsOiQlfwRJ0aFhx9sLgEGpT5ZScaPhxnr79rSQs_QPgiypoSlBZ5NvCHttbX-oN_p_AK1MDW9I23EC_c7vCfY8yEh1uepxbynSaDvn520-AS_aYjHbJrz/s400/IMG_0350.JPG" /> <p align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;">My husband after work ( he is a paramedic) and our gorgous Lucy relaxing on the bed</span><br /><br /></p><br /><br /><br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5507287233435325410" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_eYk4bMFNh6HtBJano0n9f3HQEwElaROSD3btSp0FQXSHKBswh3E2q8QpWWzCVWzdiJwOmQ-HsxjH3HzNeq5SWmyKevKWfiEhB2meAT2nuzG5kabUEbIinLMTTQgAWGeM44AIGHbitcTK/s400/IMG_0389.JPG" /><br /><p align="center"><span style="font-family:verdana;">Me holding my friends beautiful baby girl Alexis who was born last Thursday. OMG people go nuts at garage sales!!! There were actually people fighting over stuff it was insane! My husband & I didnt have too much stuff to contribute but we did manage to sell an ugly blue futon we have had for years for $40, my husbands fog machine which I made him get rid of, and I sold a few old handbags & clothes. When I was going through all my old clothes I found a gorgous silk printed dress which is way too small for me and I was about to sell it but realised I could alter it to a cute skirt instead. Its amazing how now I try to look at things differently like old clothes and think of a way to alter them now I am able to with my sewing machine. Im looking forward to being totally self sufficient when it comes to making ALL my own clothes and homewares & eventually my future childrens clothes. </span></p><p align="center"><span style="font-family:Verdana;">My knitting project is slowly coming along. At the moment its just a square ( about 10cm x 10cm) but for my first scarf its getting there! Im hoping to be finished in time for next winter (which is June 2011 in Australia). </span></p><p align="center"><span style="font-family:Verdana;">Im back at work this week, starting with 4 night shifts from Friday. My 6 weeks holidays went way too fast! Im pleased I got my root canal over & done with before going back to work though. It actually wasnt as bad as i thought it would be and despite the cost ($800 and thats with private health insurance!) im glad I went with it instead of the extraction. I didnt want to start having my teeth removed at the young age of 24! Otherwise I had an alright holidays. My house is spotless, I slept in til about 10am most days and spent a few hours down at the beach everyday with my dog. I also caught up on my reading...ahem..magazines. I subscribe to the following: Frankie, Yen, Spook & Peppermint. I had about 6 months worth of issues I hadnt read yet due to study commitments so it was loverly to catch up on my favourite craft & fashion mags. I also read a few books: The Bride Stripped Bare by anonymous & im still getting through The Lord of The Rings (yes the whole 1000+ pages of very small text) by J.R.R Tolkien. I got to catch up with some very dear friends who I havent seen in ages which was great, we all met during our first year as nurses and although we have all taken different paths in our careers & lives we try to keep in touch as much as possible. </span></p><p align="center"><span style="font-family:Verdana;">Ive learnt a few things over the last few weeks which id like to share. </span></p><p align="center"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><strong>1. Family comes first</strong>. My mother-in-law had abit of a nervous breakdown a few weeks ago and despite having 7 children only 3 of her children were there to help, along with myself & another daughter-in-law. She owns her own coffee shop and works 70 hours a week so when she was admitted to hospital she needed help to keep her business going until it could be sold (the business is the main source of her stress). I thought it was very poor that only 3 of her children offered to help in any way. She was very grateful to those of us who helped her during that difficult time. And after all, isnt that what family is for? To support each other in times of need? </span></p><p align="center"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><strong>2. Karma is a bitch</strong>. Well, im hoping so anyway. I believe that if you put out positive vibes, surround yourself by positive people and do kind things everyday you will be rewarded by karma. I also believe if you do the opposite, you will get a tonne of shit thrown into your universe. And im hoping this happens to a certain bitch who has ruined a loved one's life and is a manipulative disgusting excuse for a human being. I have never seen anyone be so evil and im waiting for karma to come back and bite that bitch.</span></p><p align="center"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><strong>3. Dog is man's best friend</strong>. My dog, Lucy is my bestest friend ever. She is a german shepherd & is 20 months old. She is also a total nutcase and all she wants to do is play and be with me & my husband. The joy I feel when im playing fetch with her or walking along the beach with her or sitting on the sand with her while watching the waves is incredible. She is so loving & loyal and to her my husband & I are her everything. Other dog owners will know exactly what im talking about, and if you dont have a dog I highly recommend getting one if you are able to. The loyalty & love they give is unconditional. </span></p><p align="center"><span style="font-family:Verdana;">Well ive just had a sudden crash in energy levels and cant be bothered thinking or typing anymore so I will leave it at and add to this list as needed.
